Why I'm Running

Thank you for taking time to learn more about me.

I am a Bay Area native, Hayward Planning Commissioner, and former Community Services Commissioner. I am also a mother, lawyer, and substitute teacher.  My husband Robert and I have lived in Hayward for nearly 18 years (13 years as homeowners).  We are also the proud parents of two school-age children.

I got my start in public service volunteering at my children’s school, serving as Parent Teacher Club Secretary and member of the School Site Council. I saw first-hand the difficult choices many families are forced to make around the cost of housing, childcare, after-school activities, and groceries.  When I saw friends move out of the area to find balance between affordability and quality of life, I found myself wanting to do more to support Hayward families.

As a Planning Commissioner, I have tackled tough issues and pushed for inclusive affordable homeownership. In my legal work, I have seen parents make painful sacrifices to ensure a better life for their families, and I’ve worked with seniors concerned about losing their homes, benefits, and life savings.  These experiences motivate me to make a difference here in Hayward, advocating on our City Council for families of all kinds to thrive in Hayward.

In addition to my housing and education volunteer work, I am deeply committed to protecting our environment. Growing up, I had the privilege of seeing my father invent a scientific instrument to analyze manmade chemicals that were causing thinning of the ozone layer, the gaseous layer that protects us from the sun’s ultraviolet radiation. His work helped affirm the agreement by world-wide governments to ban these chemicals, protecting our planet and keeping people healthy. I will be proud to continue this legacy of environmental protection if you elect me to the Hayward City Council.

After seven years in city volunteer roles with increasing complexity, running for City Council feels like the natural next step for me.  I am ready and well-qualified to do the job. I will be a voice for common sense and collaboration on the issues important to all of us:

  • Pandemic recovery and economic vitality
  • Keeping our streets clean and our community safe
  • Homelessness and housing
  • Protecting our environment

You will be able to count on me to listen first, collaborate with others, and then take action to move Hayward forward.  If I can be of service to you, reach out to me at ([email protected]).   When you contact me, I will respond.

Thank you again for your interest in my campaign for Hayward City Council.  Working together, I know we can move Hayward forward!
