Housing and Affordability
Housing
Everyone needs housing they can afford. However, what is considered “affordable” is still beyond the reach of many Hayward residents. That’s why I am fully committed to championing the comprehensive and compassionate framework outlined in Hayward’s Housing Strategic plan, Let’s House Hayward, with the vision for “Hayward to be a leader in ensuring an end to homelessness by empowering individuals through accessible, dignified treatment and services."
By addressing the root causes of our housing crisis, identifying existing service gaps and supporting the expansion of compassionate crisis interventions, we can ensure our unsheltered neighbors have immediate access to safety and ultimately to housing. I am also committed to protecting our most vulnerable residents by supporting our tenant protection policies and expanding eviction prevention initiatives so families can remain home and stay safe.
I am proud of the work Hayward has done so far to provide affordable housing for families and seniors. Since my time on the Planning Commission to date on Council, I have seen over 400 affordable, income-restricted housing units come online and there is more to do. I will remain committed to bring more housing to Hayward.
